We’re in for one hell of a campaign!By: Shad Osman | August 29th, 2013
Well, with all of the doubters from last year and their “It was only Cluj and Braga” “Man U used their B team” talk I wanted a tougher group this time around and damnit I got it. F*CK. Figo pulled out the letter that would ultimately place us in the group with Real Madrid, Juventus and Copenhagen. While Real Madrid and Juventus are the clear favorites, our elimination round and Quarter Final run showed the world that Galatasaray is a force to be reckoned with. It’s not going to be easy but I’m confident we can finish in the top 2 and advance. We will however need to make some serious transfers into our LB and RW positions as Hakan Balta and Hamit Altintop just aren’t going to cut it.
Let’s take a look at the opposition.
We were so close to eliminating Real last year and now we have a shot at revenge. That 2nd leg was almost one epic comeback. Down 4-0 on aggregate Gala came back and scored 3 goals in a matter of minutes making every Galatasaray fan say “Oh my god we’re gonna make it”. Unfortunately it was too late in the game and Ronaldo would finish it off in the dying minutes to secure Reals seat. Losing the the first leg 3-0 did us in so we can’t concede so many goals this time around. This is going to be tough a game especially if the Gareth Bale transfer actually happens. I’m excited already!
Juventus’ main issue last season was not having a consistent striker to rely on. This year they brang in Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez two very lethal strikers. While Llorente has struggled to fit in with his new team, Tevez has had no problem whatsoever. He immediately scoring for Juve on his debut. Another tough matchup, and should be very entertaining.
No doubt the underdog of the group, yet Copenhagen is still a team to look out for. It’s important that we don’t lose any points to Copenhagen in order to make sure we can make it through to the group stages.
