How DIDN’T we win that one? Galatasaray 1-1 AntalyasporBy: Shad Osman | September 13th, 2013
Being the anniversary of Metin Oktays passing, Galatasaray was fired up and started this one strong. Burak Yilmaz, Emre Colak and Hakan Balta all had shots within the first 15′ mins that were within inches of becoming goals but just had no luck. The old saying of “Those who cant score will get scored on” proved true as Antalyaspor opened the scoring tally with Tita as he scored with their first shot of the game 1-0.
The second half didn’t start as fiery as the first as Galatasaray seemed to have lost some confidence after trailing at the half. Bruma’s substitution however injected energy not only to the players but the fans as well. In his first game as a Galatasaray player he put on quite an impressive performance. His speedy runs and ball handling ability reminded me of our days with Abdul Kader Keita. He made some great passes and even had a screamer from outside the box but was saved by Hakan Arikan. I’d love to see more from this kid and hope to see him play this Tuesday against Real Madrid. Our equalizer would come at the 74′ min mark as a cross from Sabri came right to Didier Drogba in the box who tapped it into the back of the net 1-1. Galatasaray fought hard for a second goal but just couldn’t finish.
We had no real midfield in our lineup today as both Selcuk Inan and Wesley Sneijder were out of this one. Eray also playing in place of Muslera, as he arrived from International duty the morning of the game. While some have already started to worry about yet another draw, I don’t believe we played a bad game. Our midfield simply wasn’t there and most of our attacks came through crosses from the wings. Selcuk seems to be injured but we’ll still have Sneijder with us on Tuesday against Real Madrid.
