Postmatch: Trabzonspor 0-1 Galatasaray. Galatasaray wins the derby at Trabzon
By: Musab | November 26th, 2007Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been kinda busy with the whole college thing.
TRABZONSPOR: Ahmet, Serkan, Tayfun, Tolga Seyhan, Çağdaş, Hüseyin, Ayman, Gökdeniz, Yattara (min.74 Ömer Rıza), Ceyhun, Umut
Coach: Ersun Yanal
GALATASARAY: Orkun, Uğur, Song, Servet, Hakan Balta, Barış (min.42 Sabri), Mehmet Topal, Hasan Şaş (min.80 Volkan), Arda (min.88 Ümit Karan), Lincoln, Serkan
Coach: Karl Heinz Feldkamp
Goals: Serkan Calik (Min. 89)
Overall I liked the match. We outplayed Trabzonspor throughout the first half, and although we had to wait until the 89th minute for our goal, most Galatasaray fans were expecting the goal to arrive at any minute, even if it was a bit late.
One interesting thing to note is the fact that six players our of our starting eleven were under the age of 23, namely; Serkan Calik, age 21, Baris Ozbek, age 21 , Arda Turan, age 20, Ugur Ucar, age 20 , Hakan Balta, age 23 , and Mehmet Topal, age 21. I personally am all for Feldkamp’s plans to revive the old glory days by bringing up the new generations of Galatasaray players. These lion cubs have the potential to develop into mighty lions with the proper care. In addition, according to this article, Galatasaray are now after another four young Turkish players playing in the Belgian lower leagues.
So far Galatasaray have won two out of two derbies and at the end of the 13 week, Galatasaray have still not lost a single league match. Heres how our situation is:
1. GALATASARAY 31
2. Sivasspor 31
3. Fenerbahce 25
4. Besiktas 24
5. Denizlispor 21
6. Ankaragucu 21
7. Kayserispor 20
8. Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor 18
As we can see, we are 6 points ahead of the Fenerli’s and 7 ahead of the Besiktasli’s. Next week we’re at home against Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor while Fener heads out to Denizlispor. Sivasspor continues their dream start to the season, but I still cannot see how they can ever be champions. Maybe I’m just being too confident and cocky, but I’m not really counting them in the race.

How is Baris Ozbek doing at Galatasaray?

Please, do keep on posting. It’s hard to follow Turkish football here in Finland. Always a joy to read Galatasaray related stuff!

Jan: Baris is doing pretty good actually. He’s a pretty strong player who has a wicked right foot. He likes to take shots, and while he hasn’t scored any goals, his shots are pretty accurate and I guess its only a matter of time before one of them turns to a goal.
hlg: I’ll do my best to share as much knowledge as I can to every part of the world, never forget “En buyuk cim Bom!” “Cim Bom is the Greatest!”

Musab: Thanks for the update. Good to see he’s able to develop his skills at Galatasaray.

Oh, and I second hlg’s opinion. Over here Süper Lig coverage is mostly reduced to announcing whether a German coach has been hired or fired by a club and who won the league. So it’s great to have a resource where you can follow what’s happening in Turkey.
