Postmatch- Denizlispor 1:2 Galatasaray

By: Musab | October 28th, 2007

GALATASARAY: Orkun, Hasan Şaş, Song, Servet, Volkan (min.72 Barış), Hakan Balta, Mehmet Topal, Bouzid (min.82 Uğur), Arda, Ümit, Nonda

DENİZLİSPOR: Souleymanou, Abraham, Kratochvil, Allyson, Çağdaş, Fatih Egedik (min.81 Murat), Fatih Yiğen, Serhat, Moreira, Yusuf, Gökhan (min.57 Caner)

Goals: Nonda (min.35,penalty min. 90) Kratochvil Penalty (min.47)

The squad was changed dramatically due to several last minute decisions by coach Feldkamp. Lincoln, Hakan Sukur, Tobias Linderoth, Ayhan Akman, and Sabri Sarioglu were all injured while Ugur amd Baris were on the bench. Instead Bouzid and Topal were given a chance to impress while Hasan Sas managed as right back. This led to a very interesting first team squad:

Umit Karan**Shabani Nonda
Hakan Balta**Ismael Bouzid**Arda Turan**Mehmet Topal
Volkan Yaman**Servet Cetin**Rigobert Song**Hasan Sas

Match started off slow, Denizlispor as expected played with a highly defensive mentality, and Galatasaray started to prod the defense looking for gaps. And as one could expect, Galatasaray found a goal in the 35th minute from a great cross by Hasan Sas which was met by the head of Shabani Nonda. Second half started on a similar note before Bouzid made a complete idiot of himself by jumping on top of an opponent during a challenge for the ball, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REFEREE. Penalty was converted and Denizlispor dug in for the storm.

Galatasaray players shot left and right, all saved by goalie Hamidou or missed the mark entirely. I think the record was 29 shots, and 18 on target. As the 90th minute aproached, millions of Galatasaray supporters must of been infuriated. Just then, breakthrough. This time a Denizlispor defender inflicted a foul on Karan. Whistle went, Nonda took the shot, and Musab screamed “GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL” as loud as he could. Pretty good if u ask me.

The Good: Hasan Sas had a great day, giving a wonderful assist to Nondas first goal.
The Bad: Denizlispor’s penalty was given away pretty cheaply by a foolish challenge by Bouzid.
The Ugly: Umit Karan gave one of his worst performances, missing countless chances, including one in which the goal was wide open, and yet he managed to succesfully miss it.

Heres your chart, we’re on top, ’nuff said.

Besiktas was held to a draw against Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediye Spor Kulubu (Translated as “Istanbul Greater City Municipality Sport Club. Just roll off the toungue.) That gives a three point cushion to screw up.

Next week we visit Gaziantepspor while Fenerbahce and Besiktas square off in an Istanbul derby. READ: WE WANT THEM TO DRAW.
