I hope Sivas burns, Turkish Cup Quarterfinals – Galatasaray 1:1 Sivasspor

By: Musab | January 27th, 2009

After Saturday’s horrific league match, Sivas traveled over to Istanbul to see what a real stadium looks like. I guess the retards were surprised that grass can actually grow when care is given. Besides the state of the pitch the only difference between the game was that the defense was turned into something a bit more respectable with the return of Fernando Meira to the starting 11. However Sivas continued with their negative gameplay.

GALATASARAY – SİVASSPOR: 1-1
Stadium: Ali Sami Yen
Referees: Hüseyin Göçek, Alpaslan Dedeş, Kemal Yılmaz

GALATASARAY: Aykut, Sabri, Emre Aşık, Meira, Hakan Balta, Mehmet Topal, Aydın (min. 68 Yaser), Barış (min. 82 Mehmet Güven), Ayhan, Arda, Baros

SİVASSPOR: Petkoviç, Abdurrahman, Diallo, Da Silva Bilica, Murat, Mohamed (min. 46 Onur), Sezer, Musa, İbrahim, Tum (min. 46 Balili), Mehmet (min. 68 Kamanan)

Goals: min. 75 Balili (Sivasspor), min. 90+2 Ayhan (Galatasaray)

Yellow Cards: min. 30 Diallo, min. 45 Mohamed, min. 69 İbrahim, min. 73 Sezer, min. 87 Abdurrahman, min. 90+4 Petkoviç (Sivasspor), min. 43 Arda, min. 73 Sabri, min. 90+3 Emre Aşık (Galatasaray)

The match was just Galatasaray sending waves of waves of attacks on the Sivas defense which yet again was formed of 11 players playing very rough football against our youngsters. I’m very glad that the Ali Sami Yen faithful cursed at the Sivasspor players and management in the most vicious ways possible, simply because they deserved it.

Sivas does not play football. All they do is put defenders behind the ball, play rough and get lucky.
I would like someone to come forward and show me what Sivas does positively. As Sivas’ manager Bulent Uygun says, “this shows what can be done by a handful of people”. Yes Bulent Bey, this is what can be done by a handful of people. However if even one or two of those people leave, everything will collapse. Many of Sivas’ players will see their contracts end this season, and then Sivas like many other Anatolian clubs with similar aspirations will fade into obscurity and return to the lower leagues where it belongs.

However there are a few things to be said about our side. First off there are some players that need to leave. For starters, Umit Karan and Shabani Nonda have got to go. Both have been terrible form this season, with Umit not havign scored a single league goal. I’m sorry Umit but it seems your nightlife has finally caught up with you and has devestated you as everyone had been expecting. Secondly, Linderoths gotta go. Hes been with us for a injury ridden season and a half and I can’t remember him playing a single match for us. I’m very sorry Tobias, but it just didn’t work out.

Next, this team needs a radical overhaul of its right side. We don’t have a right back on this team. Sabri and Baris are NOT right backs. You can’t expect them to do defense. We need a proper right winger also. If it means spending big, then so be it. We need someone like Okan who can tear apart defenders with his speed and cross the ball inside for Milan to score. If only Arda could play on the right side, then we could have him there and Kewell on the left side. Finally we need a new forward. Mehmet Yildiz would be a good signing especially since his contract ends this summer.

We are definitly not in panic mode. We are still the clear favorites to win this league. However dumb mistakes here and there can ruin everything if they get out of hand. This weekend we’ll be up against strugglnig Denizlispor. What we need is a good pick-me-upper. Im calling for a very sound thrashing of Denizli, 3-0. It’ll do wonders for our shot morale and will restate our intention to win. And let’s not forget the trip to Bordeaux coming up soon in February.

Arda is a natural right winger, he shouldn’t be on the left side to start with, last season in my opinion he palyed best at right, and kewell is NOT what so ever a right winger. Kewell is claiming that after the match starts Arda wants to switch wings and that sends Harry to the right side which he isn’t good at. i think Arda needs to quit whining and just play right wing cause kewell is better than him at left wing anyway.

You make a good point there Utku, but I argue that Arda is better than Kewell, whether its on the right or left. However I don’t think it’s worth spending time over getting Arda over to the right side. I think the board needs to spend some cash and get a proper top-class right winger.

Musab, you say Sabri isn’t a proper right back. I agree. What about putting Sabri on the right wing and buying a proper top class right back? Do you think Sabri is good enough to start every game for GS at right midfield?

Sabri? Honestly no. He’s too inconsistent and is lacking in certain departments, namely strength and crossing. I’ll never forget the PSV match of a couple seasons ago when he made so many poor crosses that resembled more like inaccurate lobs. A couple years ago Gerets wanted to buy Simao Sabrosa, and yet the board didn’t have the funds. He would have been perfect right now.

And like Utku said, Servet’s day to day, but I expect him to return for the Denizli match.

I’m not a big Simao fan. Also, he is like Arda. A right footed player who plays on the left. GS can do better than Simao. He was RUBBISH at Euro 2008.
