Another draw in Europe, another hot night at the Ali Sami Yen awaits, Hamburg 1-1 Galatasaray
By: Musab | March 12th, 2009Another very confident performance by the CimBom tonight, and away at the very formidable Hamburg. As we all know, when the CimBom travels to Germany, it isn’t much of an away match thanks to all the Turkish Germans that come out in droves to see the team that they support and love so very much but are only able to see them on the television set. I’d say a good 30,000 Turks were at the HSH Nordbank Arena, all there to root their team to victory.
HAMBURG: 1 GALATASARAY: 1
Stadium: HSH Nordbank Arena
Referees: Viktor Kassai, Gabor Eros, Tibor Vamos
HAMBURG: Rost, Boateng, Alex Silva (min. 83 Pitrolpa), Mathijsen, Aogo (min. 70 Olic), Benjamin, Jarolim, Trachowski, Jansen, Petric, Guerrero
GALATASARAY: De Sanctis, Sabri, Emre Aşık, Hakan Balta, Volkan, Barış, Ayhan, Arda (min. 82 Hasan Şaş), Kewell, Lincoln (min. 57 Mehmet Güven), Nonda (min. 73 Ümit Karan)
Goals: min. 49 Jansen (Hamburg) min. 32 Ayhan (Galatasaray)
Red Card: Emre Aşık
Yellow Cards: Guerrero, Boateng (Hamburg) Barış, Volkan Yaman, Arda (Galatasaray)
I’m not gonna say much about this match, seeing as to how I couldn’t watch live (thanks to class), and not at the 6:00 replay (Thanks to other plans). From what I understand, the squad was very organized and Hakan Balta did an okay job in defense. They held their ground for the first 15 min, and it was obvious that they wouldn’t lose this match after that.
They found the goal before half time after a Hamburg miscue to a wide open Ayhan who found the bottom right corner. With that vital away goal in our pockets, the team went ahead and conceded a goal thanks to another defensive error. To top it all off, Emre Asik was red carded after bringing down the last man leaving us without any central defenders left in the squad.
Let’s also give a shoutout to Hasan Sas who returned from injury today. Let’s hope he can get back to being the vital part of this team we know he can be.
Hopefully this away goal will be enough to see us through to the next stage. Any opinions? Feel free to comment on the match and where we go from here.

this week is very critical to galatasaray’s season and bulent’s career. if we beat trabzon and somehow get get through to the next round without any defenders it will be fantastic but i just see something going wrong. either we will lose against trabzon(which i frankly don’t care that much about) or we will lose against hamburg(which i REALLY care about) or even worse both….
i think we need to make a big summer transfer of a defender or two cause this team’s defense this year is the worst i’ve seen in the past 10 years.

How good was Harry Kewell filling in the central defence. What a versatile player, easily the best in the Gala team
