Ankaraspor 1-1 Galatasaray, Skibbe; ” very happy with the draw”

After Kayerispor drew 1-1 with Altay yesterday, many hoped that Galatasaray would b able to take full point today and reach the top of the Turkish Cup table. Doing so would give us some breathing roo for later on when we’re taking on teams like Benfica and Fenerbahce. But no. They just had to pull of a classic CimBom and get a tie against Ankaraspor. Lincoln, Arda, Kewell, Meira, Umit all played, and yet they still couldn’t manage to defeat Ankaraspor.

What’s more disturbing is Skibbe postmatch comments. Skibbe stated that he was very happy with the draw, seeing as to how Ankara is a hard away match. You’ve gotta be kidding me. apparently Skibbe has realized that he just can’t manage to beat lesser teams and is happy even with the draw. I remember when Fatih Terim would yell at his players until they wisened up and understood how important their jobs are. I remember a Lucescu who fought for every last point. I remember a Hagi that even when his team was trash, tried his best to make sure the team did its best. And now look how far we’ve fallen.

His comments also show how distant he is from the rest of the team and board. The president, board members, players, and fans are all declaring that “Kadikoy is our objective” and that they will win this year’s UEFA Cup at Fener’s home stadium. Everyone has big (and relatively realistic) goals for this team, and yet Skibbe all on his lonesome, is declaring that to even draw with Ankaraspor is a success. This is unbelievable.

Skibbe went on to say that we still have to matches in our own stadium and that we stil have a good chance of getting on top. What the idiot doesn’t realize (or doesn’t want to admit) is that if they just worked hard to beat Ankaraspor, they would be on top right now. Also, there’s no guarantee of a victory against Kayserispor or even second league Malatyaspor if the team continues to play like this.

I hope the Galatasaray board realize that SKibbe has done nothing productive for this team and that by sitting on their asses and wishing things got better, this team will continue sliding. Skibbe needs to go. Tonight if possible. We need a good Turkish manager like Tolunay Kafkas or even Bulent Uygun to save this team with their knowledge of Turkish football, their ability to read the minds and heats of their players, and their desire to go far and win trophies.
