No Baros No Goal? C’mon! Galatasaray 1-2 Antalyaspor
By: Nurshad |We went out there hoping for an easy win. Instead we got reminded why were eliminated from the Turkish Cup. It was an all too familiar scenario. An injury ridden team, no Baros, and a struggle just to get the ball past Antalyaspor. It was a scoreless first half until we took the lead after a cross from Arda Turan met Yalcin who kicked the ball into the back of his own net. 1-0. It was all down hill from there. As Antalyaspor pressed the ball into the backfield and met Tita who directed the ball low past Aykut only 1 minute later, 1-1. The game dragged on and it appeared the game would end with a 1-1 draw until Veysel who was substituted in stoppage time found the ball coming in his direction and connected with a header to make it 1-2 at the last minute. Just Perfect. What was a comfortable lead for the 3rd spot we are now tied with Besiktas and must win next weeks game against Genclerbirligi. Lets hope for the best.

Lucas Neill to be named one of the captains for the 2010-2011 season
By: Nurshad |Labeled our new Popescu he’s proven to be our best signing from our mid-season transfer window. Impressing us all with his skill and class on the pitch he’s played a key role and does a great job controlling the defense. Adnan Polat has stated he will be named our defensive captain next season. Well deserved.

Our title chances are pretty much gone with the wind. Galatasaray 0-0 Bursaspor
By: Nurshad |It was within the first 30 seconds that we saw signs this was going to be a very intense game. We also saw that the high speed wind wasn’t going to make this easy. As stated our first attack came with Baros Arda and Giovani getting the ball around the Bursa defense and shot right towards the goal only to slide past the post and out of bounds. Bursaspor followed right up and came into goal territory but Lucas Neill stopped the attack before they even had a chance. As Bursaspor continued to attack our defense kept shutting them down as well as Aykut Ercetin making some incredible saves.
With all the unbelievable goal positions that would open up the real stars of this game were the goalkeepers who wouldn’t let anything go by. Bunyamin Gezer handed out cards left and right and made some ridiculous calls. Our league really needs to find some more professional refs. With both sides only leaving the game with 1 point each, Fenerbahce has taken the lead with 67 points ahead of Bursaspor by 2 points and keeping us at 3rd place separating us by 6 points. With 3 weeks left in the season our chances of becoming champions isn’t completely over but is now out of our hands. All we can do is win our next 3 games and hope both Fener and Bursa (who both have tough games ahead) dont gain anymore points.

Injury Report 4.24.2010
By: Nurshad |Hakan Balta is back in full strength after suffering a minor injury to his knee. He completed the whole training session with the team and expected to keep his spot on the starting 11.
Servet Cetin sat out of practice due to a respiratory infection and isn’t expected to play against Bursaspor
Emre Asik is still suffering from lower back pains and was given time to rest.
Harry Kewell is close to being back in game form and practiced a portion of his training together with the team.
Its highly unlikely we see Kewell back for tomorrows game but he is however expected to be back on the pitch for the last 2 weeks of the league. We have heard this before so were just going to have to wait and see.

Ali Turan officially begins training with Galatasaray!
By: Nurshad |Ali Turan was taken off of Kayserispor’s active line-up and later dropped from the team altogether for saying he would like to play for Galatasaray. A deal for him during the transfer window was unsuccessful as any offer made wasn’t enough for Kayserispor. They decided it would be better for them to drop him from the team rather then make a profit from the transfer fee….where’s the logic?
Expected to be signed this offseason in June Ali Turan is wasting no time. He and his trainer Fatih Yildiz have already begun training with the team. Good to have you on board Ali!

The title race isnt over yet! Galatasaray 2-1 Manisaspor
By: Nurshad |Its pretty evident that Baros is huge force on this team and with him being back on the squad we’ve been rejuvenated and somewhat back to our usual form. He diverts attention, finds holes in the defense, cuts through and attacks. Exactly what we’ve been missing these past few months. Paired up with Keita they make a deadly duo.
We started off attacking early on but it wasn’t until the 21st where a free kick from Elano went low right to Keita as he redirected the ball past the keeper giving us the lead 1-0! Baros was bringing the heat as he had multiple attempts but just couldnt connect early on. Isaace promise came close to equalizing the score but was called for a controversial offside. In the second half as we came into the 64th Arda Turan came up the left side and his beautiful flick pass connected with Milan Baros for his 11th assist of the season. Arda was finally given a roaring ovation as he walked off the pitch for a sub but seemed very upset with the fans after the their protest chants towards him weeks prior.
Manisa finally put some points on the board but only from an own goal from our side as a cross from Jack Momha came into the penalty area as Mehmet Topal tried to send the ball away it went right over Aykuts shoulder and into the net. Mehmet Topal was wearing a protective mask which may have affected his judgment on positioning the ball. Either way, we were still up by a point and our defense along with Aykut played a great game.

Galatasaray: Aykut, Sabri (81′ Emre Güngör x), Neill, Hakan Balta, Caner, Mehmet Topal, Dos Santos, Elano, Keita, Arda (67′ Mustafa Sarp), Baros
Goals: 21′ Keita, 64′ Baros (Galatasaray), 74′ Mehmet Topal (Own Goal) (Manisaspor)
Yellow Cards: 20′ Hüseyin (Manisaspor), 41′ Baros, 82′ Santos (Galatasaray)
Leo Franco is now looking for a new club
By: Nurshad |After letting a poorly hit shot slip right past him against Fenerbahce, fans lost all hope in Leo. Especially after revealing he didn’t see the ball because he forgot to remove his colored lenses (seriously?). He’s been replaced by Aykut whose been doing a pretty good job so far. Yes I know we were scored on at the last minute against Sivas, but you cant only put the blame on him we should sealed that game long before. I’ve never felt comfortable with Leo as our keeper. Even before the transfer when all I saw were goals going right by him in his highlight reel, if they couldn’t find enough footage of solid saves from the guy why did we want him?
Aykut and Ufuk are actually very talented keepers, but they just don’t get the recognition because we seem to value foreign goalkeepers more then our own. We keep looking for another Mondragon and cant appreciate what we already have. After all the hype and drama we went through to get Ufuk Ceylan are we really just going to let him rot away on the bench like Aykut has for most of his career? Instead of spending big money on another foreign keeper I think we should just spend the time and money on developing the talent we already have.

All hail! The King is back! Galatasaray 4-1 Diyarbakirspor
By: Nurshad |It was only 1 month ago we were #1 and 5 points ahead of 2nd place Bursaspor, oh we’ve dug ourselves into quite the shithole. With our abysmal performance at our 0-1 home loss to Fenerbahce and falling asleep in the second half allowing near relegation Sivasspor to tie, the fans had enough. Now 8 points behind the current leaders the fans began to protest and thats exactly what we needed. Leo Franco was booed and whistled during pregame warm-ups, which led him to change out of his gear completely and sit out. Aykut was given another chance and he wouldn’t disappoint.
The first 5 minutes started with the fans protest of complete silence, along with a near goal from Erhan Senturk it woke our side up. Baros was finally back at his starting role, and reminded everyone at 18th minute the goal king is back! As Keita ran up the right side a cross to the center found Milan Baros speeding up and connecting with a header right past the keeper 1-0! It was just 10 minutes later when a pass from Hakan Balta found Keita on the right side once again with the exact same cross connecting once again with a header from Baros 2-0!
We came back into the 2nd half still motivated and still hungry for more. A corner kick went high from the Diyarbakir defenders going behind Giovani, as he kicked it back it landed right on Lucas Neill’s chest and he sent it flying into the back of the net 3-0! Lucas Neill’s first goal with Galatasaray and I couldnt be happier. He’s easily the best transfer we made this offseason and plays a vital role on our squad. 2 goals in but Baros was still not done. Only one minute later Milan Baros brang the ball across field into the box and slid it right past the goalie 4-0!!! Diyarbakir would go on to score one in the 72′ min making the score 4-1 but this game was far out of their reach. Our lions got the message loud and clear and looked very motivated out there playing as a team and not as individuals. It was a great performance and hopefully we can see this kind of play continue. We face Manisaspor next week and Fenerbahce play Besiktas. Either a tie or a loss from Fenerbahce would be highly beneficial in our race to get back in line for the Champions League.
