News from the training facilities: Nonda speaks out, Serkan chooses Turkey over Germany, and the boss returns.
By: Musab | January 3rd, 2008Well finally Galatasaray began training for the Saturday Fortis Turkish Cup match against Bursaspor. Herr Feldkamp returned on Thursday and right away got back to work. Too bad someone else couldn’t be in charge. This is as the Galatasaray board declared that due to a lack of funds, all transfer dealings have been canceled and there will be no new signings this winter other then Emre Gungor. In my opinion this might be the best option. The team is already a new one so it might be best not to add any more fresh blood to a fresh team and to just keep it as it is.
In an interview with Zaman Newspaper, Shabani Nonda explained how he chose Galatasaray over several other teams across Europe due to the fact that he wanted to celebrate championships. He stated that while he could have stayed at Blackburn or Roma, he preferred Galatasaray because, “I’ll be a champion and i’ll always be playing in the champions league.” Smart Choice Nonda. A true lion throughout.
20 yr old forward Serkan Calik had already been playing for the German U-21 team, however he has publicly stated that he does not want to play for the German national team and would instead prefer playing for the country of his parents. He has suposedly sent a letter to the German football federation, politely asking them not to include him in any future lineups. Let’s just hope that he’ll continue to develop as a footballer and that he’ll be a great benefit to the national team.
