Meira’s movin on
By: Musab | March 10th, 2009Well it was officially announced today that our 30 year old Portuguese central defender Fernando Meira has been transfered to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg. Apparently we’ll be making 6 million Euro’s from this deal. Let’s not forget that we paid 4 million pre-global economic collapse Euros. So that amount to… just enough cash to buy a new football!!! Yay!!!
Meira will probably not be missed, especially snce he just arrived. He never seemed to clearly gel into the squad and never really formed a critical bond with his fellow central defender Servet. Our defense this year has been a horror show from every concievable angle. For years the one thing we could count on this team was its central defense and it’s goalkeeper. This year the defense part of that was shit.
However this means that Meira will not be playing in the critical match away at Hamburg this Thursday. At this point in time we have only the 35 year old horror show Emre Asik fit and ready to play against Hamburg. Servet and Emre Gungor are injured while Meira has fled the coop. I don’t think we’re ever going to see a full strength squad.

He will not be missed 6 million is too much to turn down, as you said our defense has been a shambles the worst in the top 8.
I wish him the best in Russian football. It’s time for the younger guys to step up to the plate.Posted from

I’m really shocked and disappointed to see Meira go. Lincoln was terrible last season, we kept trust in him and kept him. Meira played 98% of our matches, he didn’t play bad in those matches we gave him. Now we only have Emre Asik as our recognised centre back, this isn’t good. We should’ve gave Meira time to settle in. We’ve literally given away the UEFA Cup for 6 million euro’s..

Utku: Guess we gotta give Bulent his Number 3 jersey again and let him play.
Alex: 6 million Euros today is almost break even with the 4 million we paid before the global economic melttdown. The value of the Euro then has dropped dramatically. I also wish him the best and I agree that the youngsters are jsut going to have to step up to the plate. But why is it always them who have to carry the burden of this team?
AJ: Let’s not be too hasty AJ, there going to have to pry that Cup from our bare dead hands before we give it away. Good point about Lincoln.
