Galatasaray heads to the polls as the team take on Kayserispor. So who will win???

By: Musab | March 7th, 2008

The Galatasaray elections are coming up and guess what? Ozhan Canaydin is not going to seek another term.

So who’s gonna take his place? Most likely it’ll be Canaydin’s second in command, Adnan Polat. For years Polat has been eyeing the throne. Now that the King has abandoned it, he could very well claim it for himself.

I for one support Adnan Polat’s bid for the presidency. He already knows the ropes of how the whole operation takes place. In addition, his “main campaign promise” is that he will bring wealthy Galatasaray businessmen into the board of directors (In Turkey, the board of directors is almost always refitted after every election).

However there is one very important aspect of Polat that I like. Adnan Polat is NOT an alumni of the Galatasaray Lycee. Why is this a good thing? To keep things short, the Galatasaray Lycee is a poison to the club. Every president of the club has been part of the Lycee. The lycee feel that the club should be confined as part of the property of the lycee and not to the general public. As a results they have had a hand on the club’s decisions since day one. Most of the time this has lead to poor decisions and results. In addition, when Polat says that he will bring wealthy businessmen to the board, he means non-Alumni men.

Polat has already recieved the kiss on the forehead by Canaydin so he will most likely be elected. Let the good times roll….

Back to soccer.

The team has not been doing good. They were thrown out of the UEFA cup after being handed a 5-1 spanking by Bayer Leverkusen. They lost at home to the worst club in the league. And last week they lost to Besiktas, leading to them being in second place, one point behind Besiktas, same with Fenerbahce and Sivasspor.

However there is plenty of hope. We knocked Fenerbahce out of the Turkish cup and our star players Lincoln, Hasan Sas, and Nonda are all going to take part in Saturday’s match against fifth place Kayserispor. It’ll be a tough match but I really think we’ve got the strength to beat them.
