Galatasaray 2-1 Gaziantepspor. Wesley Sneijder playing more like his old self!By: Shad Osman | August 19th, 2013
Galatasaray started the day presenting Tomas Ujfalusi with a Thank You plaque as he is officially off to Sparta Prague. He played a huge role his first season bossing the defensive line and mentoring a young Semih Kaya. His influence was great as Semih has become our most solid defender. Thank you for a spectacular 2 seasons and good luck at Sparta “Big Chief”!
The lions started the game strong and continued on as the front line attacked throughout the game. Wesley Sneijder, who was far from 100% last season was spectacular! After his very public fallout at Inter, he was highly criticized as being a shell of his former self. However, his performances this preseason have showed that he’s still got it. It continued today as his passes were spot on, and his cheeky goal edging right into the corner of the post shows exactly why they call him “The Sniper” 1-0.
As the media tries to create a rift between Burak Yilmaz and his teammates, Fatih Terim put the rumors to rest starting with both Burak and Drogba in the first 11 today. Burak would prove that he’s still this teams starting striker as he not only assisted Sneijders goal but pressed the defensive line all night. He cut forward and came up against the keeper 1 on 1 forcing the foul and earned the penalty. While Melo wanted to take the kick, he stepped aside as Burak wanted to go for it himself. Burak launched it into the back of the net bringing the score to 2-0.
While Gaziantep put a fight of their own its wasnt until the 75th min that Muhammed Demir would deliver a beautiful bicycle kick straight past Muslera. Hope to see more from this kid this season.
