18 Million Euro Tottenham bid rejected?

By: Musab | September 2nd, 2009

The latest transfer rumor is that Galatasaray has rejected an 18 million Euro bid from English side Tottenham Hotspur for our young starlet Arda Turan. Adnan Polat has apparently stated that Galatasaray is not a selling club at this point but that the issue may be discussed again at the end of the season.

I for one feel that the time for Arda to move on to Europe is not now. We raised him and he is now our Number 10 and Captain. We should reap the fruits of our labor. And by reap our fruits I mean win the Europa League this season. Arda is hands down the best player in Turkey right now and has been showing great improvement since he started his first game when he was 16. Arda is a very unique person in that his boyish charm and calm minded temperment allows him to concentrate in his football and is thus succesful with us. Im sure that if he goes to a European club, hell mature even further and really hone his footballing skills.

He’s a player I’d love to see wearing the Blaugrana at some point in his career.

Way too good for Tottenham. Should only leave for one of the top clubs around…

Arda is a great player but has a horrible temperament. He argues constantly with the referees and has picked up way too many yellow and reds.

He is also too slow for the Premier League just as Hasan Sas was.

I don’t think it will be a good move by Galatasaray to sell him to Europe’s top clubs(not even to “Blaugrana”). Remember first of all that Rijkaard accepted to coach the team with the knowledge he will Galatasaray best players around, and in this case with Arda gone, Galatasaray is going to falter, fall into disarray. Rijkaard would not even accept such a move, and he will resign immediately b/c he knows his job would have been undermined in the sense that he can’t win any titles.
Also, many potential greal players have flopped in Europe, and subsequently benched, lost form and will never return to the glorious days of their past (Shevchenko,Veron,Quaresma,Dutch players in Madrid system, Saha, Pavlyuchenko…) I can go on and on.
So Arda be careful, and Trust Thyself, but remember that the road to stardom in Europe’s top clubs is a long unwinding double edged sword.
Musab please post more articles preview analysis of Galatasaray games, not just transfers.

Brett: But don’t you know that all the best players play at Madrid? ;)

MoMONEY: I personally wouldn’t mind him settling for a mid table Premiership side where he can play first team football.

Gulay: Im going to have to disagree with you there. Here’s Ardas Yellow/Red Card table:

    09/10: ~460 Minutes 2 Yellow Cards 0 Red Cards
    08/09: ~3600 Minutes 6 Yellow Cards 1 Red Card
    07/08: ~3400 Minutes 7 Yellow Cards 0 Red Cards
    07/07: ~2700 Minutes 7 Yellow Cards 1 Red Card

That comes out to a grand total of 1 Yellow Card every 462 Minutes. The Facts would argue that Arda is a very disciplined player who is showing remarkable maturation into the star player he can be.

Hasan Sas didn’t play for the Premier League and was on the brink of joining Italian side Lazio if not for his own greed over his salary. And I wouldn’t call Arda a slow player, he consistently works hard to help his defense and then comes forward to join in the attack. I’m pretty sure the Premiership has plenty of wingers that are slower than Arda and yet play week in week out.

Rijkaard: I doubt that the Galatasaray board would sell Arda without Rijkaard approving it. But even if Galatasaray sell Arda in the face of a very good deal (Let’s say 30 million), then Rijkaard would be given a good deal of that money to fill in Arda’s role. If Rijkaard is such a great Manager (which he is) he will find a way to replace Arda.

Musab your comments are correct about Arda.
I think that this season as captain he is showing maturity beyond his age. Also I don’t think he’s slow!
He certainly has the talent to become one of the worlds elite players.

Musab, Arda is too slow for the Premier League as a winger, if he moves away from Turkey it would have top be to Spain or Italy or as a playmaker in the EPL. He also has a habit of disappearing in games, even though this GS team is noticeably fitter he should have a word with Emre and Tuncay about real fitness as required in the top leagues in Europe. Compared to Wright Phillips, Lennon, Valencia, even Giggs he is slow. He also has the same problem as Hasan Sas did, which is he wants to cut inside all the time rather than get to the line and hang a cross for the centre forward. Personally I think he is a great player for GS and is developing into the next Hakan Sukur as the heartbeat and leader of the team . He has to get his temper under control as he is far from mild, even though Lugano does need a good kicking leave it to the referees!
